As many conservatives try to rationalize and analyze the decision from the Supreme Court declaring the individual mandate constitutional, lots of us feel very betrayed by Chief Justice John Roberts. I will analyze the decision itself over the next week or weeks and talk about the ramifications for future taxes, which now appear limitless, to the impact on the election. For now, I am trying to grapple with what appears to be a last minute swicth in votes by Roberts. The minority opinion was clearly written first as a majority opinion and then changed to become a minority opinion. The most troubling thing for me is to think that Roberts knew the legal argument flawed and tried to find a middle ground out of pragmatism. That really is just a form of judicial activism. I am not sure how this could be construed a tax and I am not sure how you can take an argument that was only advanced as a throw everything at it with minimal effort.
Okay, Obama came out all of one week ago and said he is now in favor of gay marriage. Let’s leave the merits and case for and against gay marriage aside for now. My biggest questions stem from his change of heart. He is seen as somehow becoming “enlightened” or arriving at a careful decision to change course. When Mitt Romney changes a view- he is called- usually by Obama, a “flip flopper”. And how can Obama now try to take the high road and criticize Romney for being against gay marriage when he himself stated mere months ago he was against it? And if he truly had to come to terms over time and thought with the idea of same sex marriage, should Mitt Romney have changed his mind exactly on Obama’s time table as well?
And to now come out and call for the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act, having just arrived at this decision recently smacks of political opportunism. And again, I am not speaking for or against gay marriage, I am simply saying that Obama is a contradiction that is usually given a free pass by the media- thankfully not here though!
Once again, the lack of depth in national security and foreign policy are coming home to roost. The Obama administration has ordered the secret release of Taliban prisoners in Afghanistan in a bid to “improve” our position for negotiations. Well, yes, if you give the other side everything they want I suppose that may help them want to negotiate- so they can get even more! We have a lack of focus on what it is we are trying to accomplish. In fact, as Obama has openly questioned whether or not Romney would have ordered the Bin Ladin assault, I have to seriously question if Obama had been President, would he have made the call to confront Hitler? Or would we have tried to “negotiate” with the Nazis?
It is absolutely shameful to watch Chuck Schumer follow in President Obama’s footsteps in what can only be seen as an attempt to intimidate the Supreme Court of the United States. And he needs to grow up. In some ways, his latest actions are more reprehensible than Obama’s. Basically, Chuck is saying, we’ll let the Supreme Court decide , but if they don’t decide how we want, we will ignore their decision and make up our own rules. Hey Chuck, it is time to take your ball and go home!
Democrats have touted what they say is the right’s “war on women”, which I see little evidence of. However, the media seems to be all but ignoring the left and an all out War on God! A Massachusetts school recently took it upon themselves to rewrite “God Bless America” to remove God from the song. Watching the debacle that is our public school system, I can see why unemployment is so high. Many of our kids are graduating without the basic skills to work in ANY job whatsoever. Our school administrators occupy themselves with a War on God and let educating our children come second. But the War on God stretches far beyond the halls of our classrooms, it is in the city halls and statehouses. It is in many members of the bench. A true left wing conspiracy if ever there was one.
